Helldivers 2 Marksman Rifles Ranked by Combat Role

Marksman rifles in Helldivers 2 are often compared as though they all exist to perform the same job. A weapon gets judged by how quickly it lands headshots, how closely it resembles the Diligence Counter Sniper, or how easily it kills an enemy in an isolated damage test.

That approach misses most of what separates these rifles.

The important questions are:

  • What combat role does the weapon perform?
  • Which enemies should it prioritize?
  • At what distance does it work best?
  • Does it depend on weak-point accuracy, body-shot damage, stagger, fire damage, stealth, or melee?
  • What weaknesses must the rest of the loadout cover?

This is not a traditional S-, A-, B-, or C-tier ranking. A weapon does not need to be the best general-purpose primary in the game to be effective. It needs to perform its intended job well enough to justify its costs.

To produce this analysis, I examined the available weapon statistics, conducted controlled testing against specific enemy types and body sections, and then stress-tested the rifles in Super Helldive missions. The goal was not merely to identify theoretical damage values, but to determine how each weapon actually performs when enemies move, return fire, surround teammates, conceal their weak points, or force the engagement into an unfavorable distance.

Combat Roles

I divide weapons into four broad combat roles.

Chaff Killer: Efficiently eliminates large numbers of smaller enemies.

Elite Killer: Specializes in killing tougher medium-sized enemies, including targets such as Devastators, Berserkers, Warriors, Hive Guards, Commanders, Overseers, and similar priority units.

Crowd Control: Interrupts, staggers, stuns, confuses, redirects, or otherwise changes enemy behavior.

Utility: Provides specialized functions outside ordinary killing, including stealth, demolition, reinforcement prevention, misdirection, and similar tactical capabilities.

Most weapons can contribute to more than one role. The classifications below describe what each weapon does best, not the only thing it can possibly do.

Range Definitions

For consistency, I use the following practical range bands:

  • Close Range: Under 15 meters
  • Short Range: 15 to 25 meters
  • Medium Range: 25 to 75 meters
  • Long Range: 75 to 100 meters
  • Very Long Range: More than 100 meters

Optics, handling, enemy movement, visibility, controller versus mouse-and-keyboard input, and player skill can all move these boundaries slightly. They nevertheless provide a useful framework for comparing weapons.

Why Target Selection Determines Ammunition Economy

Marksman rifles concentrate considerable value into each projectile. That gives them high damage per shot, strong precision, and generally good range, but it also makes inefficient shots more expensive.

Firing a 200- or 300-damage projectile into an enemy with approximately 60 health is not inherently efficient simply because the enemy dies in one hit. A rifle can have a large ammunition supply and still feel starved if its user repeatedly spends elite-killing ammunition on the weakest available targets.

This is especially important when comparing headshots with body shots. A weapon that performs exceptionally well through a specific weak point may become inefficient when forced to attack armor or a large main-health section. Another weapon may appear slower in a clean headshot test but become more efficient when the weak point is unavailable.

Understanding those differences is the key to understanding the marksman-rifle category.

R-63 Diligence

A side view of a modern firearm named R-63 Diligence, featuring a sleek black design with a scope attachment.

Weapon Profile

The R-63 Diligence is the traditional general-purpose marksman rifle.

It deals 165 ballistic damage with light armor penetration and carries 25 rounds per magazine. It has a maximum fire rate of 350 rounds per minute, relatively manageable recoil, standard weapon sway, responsive handling, and approximately 63 ergonomics in its normal configuration.

Its total combat load consists of the loaded magazine and eight reserve magazines, giving it one of the strongest ammunition supplies in the marksman-rifle category.

The Diligence can equip optics through a 4X combat scope, along with several muzzle and underbarrel attachments. It cannot equip a 10X sniper scope, which places a practical limit on how comfortably it can identify and engage small weak points at very-long range.

Primary Combat Role

Primary Role: Elite Killer

Secondary Role: Chaff Killer

Best Range: Medium, approximately 25 to 75 meters

Targeting Profile: Weak-point focused

The Diligence performs best when rapidly transitioning between exposed weak points. Its responsive handling, capacity, and ammunition reserve make it considerably more forgiving than heavier marksman rifles when multiple targets must be engaged in quick succession.

It can be configured for shorter-range handling, but that does not make it a proper close-range control weapon. The rifle has only 15 stagger force, which falls below several important enemy thresholds.

A Devastator, Berserker, Warrior, Hive Guard, Cyborg, or Overseer may visibly flinch when shot, but that reaction does not necessarily interrupt its attack. Once those enemies reach close range, the Diligence must kill them before they reach the user. It cannot rely on meaningful stagger to create breathing room.

Automatons

The Automatons are one of the Diligence’s strongest matchups.

A basic Automaton Trooper can be killed with one shot to the chest. Because Troopers are normally the units responsible for calling Bot Drops, this allows the Diligence to prevent reinforcements from a safe distance without requiring a small headshot.

Devastators and Berserkers should normally be engaged through the head. A successful headshot can kill either enemy immediately and represents the rifle’s ideal targeting profile.

Once a standard Devastator detects you, its exposed stomach can serve as a fallback target. This is less efficient than the head, but it is considerably better than repeatedly firing and missing the head due to weapon sway, incoming fire, or the awkward walking movement of the Devastator throwing off your aim.

Heavy Devastators complicate this approach because their shields cover much of the torso. Useful fallback targets include:

  • The head
  • The exposed weapon arm
  • The legs
  • The visible upper section of the backpack
  • Any exposed portion of the stomach when the angle permits it

Berserkers are another difficult fallback matchup. Their stomach appears vulnerable, but they lean forward while charging, making that section difficult to hit consistently. If the headshot is not hit directly, the user may need to commit several rounds into the torso or other sections.

Distance is therefore extremely important. The farther away you are, the more time you have to identify the correct section before the enemy begins suppressing you or conceals its weak point through movement.

Terminids

The Diligence can eliminate Terminid Warriors, Commanders, and other medium-sized priority targets effectively as long as it maintains distance.

Using it constantly against Scavengers, Pouncers, and other extremely small enemies wastes a substantial portion of its damage. It can perform that job when necessary, but it should not become the rifle’s default targeting pattern.

Its low stagger also creates an important weakness against Terminid reinforcement calls.

A wide range of Terminids can initiate a Bug Breach, including many of the faction’s smaller enemies and several medium-sized units. Preventing the call requires either killing the caller quickly enough or applying stagger force that meets or exceeds its stagger threshold to stop the Breach Call behavior.

The Diligence can kill small callers with one accurate shot, but it cannot reliably stagger Warrior- or Hive Guard-tier enemies out of the reinforcement animation. Several other marksman rifles with 20 or more stagger force can perform that specific function.

The Diligence is therefore most comfortable when paired with a teammate, Guard Dog, sentry, secondary weapon, or stratagem capable of handling concentrated chaff pressure.

Illuminate

The Diligence can pick off isolated Voteless easily, especially at medium range. Its projectiles can also overpenetrate unarmored targets, allowing one shot to damage multiple Voteless when they align.

That advantage becomes difficult to exploit once the swarm closes the distance and begins moving unpredictably.

Against Overseers, light penetration limits the rifle’s options. Elevated Overseers have a light armor head, but the head of a Grounded Overseer cannot be damaged by a light-penetrating weapon. The Diligence must often punch through ablative body armor with repeated shots.

The rifle can also destroy Watcher drones in approximately three shots, depending on where the rounds connect. This gives it a useful reinforcement-prevention function against the Illuminate, although heavier marksman rifles can normally accomplish the same job with fewer hits.

Large Voteless groups, Fleshmobs, and multiple Overseers inside short range are poor matchups. The Diligence lacks both the throughput and the control necessary to stabilize those situations reliably.

Final Assessment

The R-63 Diligence is a responsive, ammunition-rich, medium-range Elite Killer. Its best qualities are precision, handling, capacity, and rapid target transitions.

It should be used to eliminate reinforcement callers and exposed weak points rather than spending most of its ammunition on the weakest available enemies.

Its main weakness is not damage. Its weakness is the absence of meaningful stagger once medium-sized enemies begin applying pressure.

R-63CS Diligence Counter Sniper

Digital illustration of a military sniper rifle with a scope, shown from the side, featuring a green and black color scheme.

Weapon Profile

The R-63CS Diligence Counter Sniper deals 200 damage with medium armor penetration. It carries 15 rounds per magazine, fires at a maximum of 350 rounds per minute, and has six reserve magazines in addition to the loaded magazine.

Its default configuration includes a 10X sniper scope and muzzle brake. It has no underbarrel or magazine customization.

The Counter Sniper handles much more slowly than the standard Diligence, with ergonomics in the mid-20s in its default configuration. That sluggishness is partially compensated for by a baseline sway value of approximately 0.8 instead of the standard 1.0.

This lower sway becomes increasingly valuable at long and very-long distances, where the target occupies very little of the optic and even minor weapon movement can pull the reticle away from a weak point.

Primary Combat Role

Primary Role: Elite Killer

Secondary Role: Limited Crowd Control against selected enemies

Best Range: Long to Very Long, approximately 75 meters and beyond

Targeting Profile: Precision-biased hybrid

The Counter Sniper is one of the most authentic sniper-style primary weapons in the game. Its 10X optic, reduced sway, medium penetration, and 200 damage make it exceptionally good at removing priority targets before they can enter effective fighting range.

Crouching or going prone improves this performance further. At distances around or beyond 100 meters, stabilizing the rifle is often more important than making small attachment adjustments to its ergonomics.

The Counter Sniper can be configured for somewhat better handling, but even a heavily modified version remains more comfortable around 30 to 50 meters than it does inside 25 meters.

Players can force it into short-range combat with handling attachments and Peak Physique, but that requires investing several parts of the loadout into correcting a weakness that other weapons do not possess.

If the intended engagement distance is consistently inside 25 meters, the Slugger or another medium-penetrating brawler will generally provide better handling, more sustainable ammunition, stronger stagger, and a more appropriate sight picture.

Meaningful Stagger

The Counter Sniper possesses 20 stagger force.

That does not allow it to fully stagger Devastators or Berserkers. A center-mass shot may cause a visible reaction, but those enemies can continue attacking.

The value becomes much more noticeable against Terminid Warriors and Hive Guards. Their stagger thresholds allow the Counter Sniper to apply a heavy stagger with each successful hit.

This creates several practical benefits:

  • Interrupting an enemy that is attacking a teammate
  • Stopping selected Bug Breach calls
  • Creating time to reposition
  • Juggling two or more medium Terminids while backing away
  • Delaying a target long enough to line up a weak-point shot

Cyborg Radicals and Agitators are another important matchup. Their stagger thresholds allow every Counter Sniper hit to interrupt them.

This is limited single-target control rather than true crowd control, but it meaningfully changes how safely the rifle can engage those enemies.

Automatons

The Counter Sniper can eliminate basic Troopers before they call reinforcements, although using a 200-damage medium-penetrating projectile on every basic Trooper is not always the most efficient use of its ammunition.

Devastators and Berserkers should normally be killed with headshots. The rifle’s low sway and 10X optic make those weak-point kills easier at long range than they are with most primary weapons.

Medium penetration allows the rifle to shoot through armored body sections when necessary, but penetration does not automatically make that efficient.

A standard Devastator can require approximately five shots when the user brute-forces directly through its chest armor. Targeting the head, stomach, pelvis, limbs, or backpack is substantially more efficient.

The Counter Sniper can also contribute against Gunships in an emergency and can damage selected components such as Factory Strider chin guns. Those options are useful fallbacks, but they should not replace more appropriate anti-heavy equipment.

Terminids

The Counter Sniper performs well against Warriors, Hive Guards, Commanders, Bile Spewers, and other medium targets when sufficient distance is maintained.

Its 20 stagger is especially valuable here. A shot does not need to kill the target immediately to provide value. Staggering an enemy that is about to strike a teammate may be more important than securing a clean personal kill.

This makes the rifle an effective overwatch weapon. A player positioned behind the squad can remove priority targets, interrupt attacks, and prevent selected reinforcement calls even when the ideal weak-point angle is unavailable.

The main limitation is handling. Once multiple Hunters, Pouncers, or other fast enemies reach short range, the rifle becomes difficult to use reactively.

Illuminate

The Counter Sniper can kill an Overseer with approximately two shots to the head, making it well suited to a rapid two-shot ambush before the target begins moving.

It can destroy Watcher drones in one or two shots depending on the section struck, allowing the user to prevent reinforcements efficiently.

When the head is unavailable, medium penetration allows the rifle to fire through ablative body armor, but the ammunition cost increases quickly.

The rifle remains poorly suited to large Voteless groups and Fleshmobs. It concentrates too much ammunition and attention into each individual target to manage those swarms efficiently.

Final Assessment

The R-63CS Diligence Counter Sniper is the dedicated long-range precision rifle of the category.

It rewards positioning, stability, and careful weak-point selection. Its medium penetration provides useful fallback options, while its 20 stagger gives it meaningful control against selected Terminids and Cyborgs.

Its biggest mistake is using it like a short-range battle rifle and then blaming the weapon for cumbersome handling. The Counter Sniper is built to remove priority targets at distance. That is where it should be judged.

R-2 Amendment

A side view of a modern assault rifle featuring a scope, tactical rail, and a bayonet attachment.

Weapon Profile

The R-2 Amendment deals 200 damage with light armor penetration. It carries 20 rounds per magazine, has a maximum fire rate of 480 rounds per minute, and supports both semi-automatic and three-round-burst firing modes.

It has 29 recoil, standard sway, ergonomics in the upper 40s in its default configuration, and a very tight mechanical spread.

The Amendment’s only conventional customization category is its optic, but the selection extends from close-range sights through a 10X sniper scope. This gives it one of the broadest possible magnification ranges among marksman rifles.

It also carries a fixed bayonet.

Primary Combat Role

Primary Role: Elite Killer

Secondary Role: Chaff Killer

Additional Role: Limited single-target Crowd Control

Best Range: Medium, with optional Short- or Very-Long-Range configurations

Targeting Profile: Weak-point focused

The Amendment is an aggressive marksman rifle. It combines 200 damage with a faster firing cycle, three-round burst, broad optic selection, and a bayonet.

Its light penetration keeps it dependent on exposed sections. Against armored enemies, access to the correct weak point matters more than raw fire rate.

At medium range, semi-automatic fire should be the default. The three-round burst works best as an emergency option against a close pursuer, a large exposed body section, or a target that must be finished immediately.

Trying to burst-fire small weak points at long range can waste ammunition as recoil pulls the later rounds away from the original point of aim.

Projectile and Bayonet Stagger

The Amendment’s projectiles possess 20 stagger force. Its bayonet possesses 25 stagger force and deals medium-penetrating melee damage.

The projectile can stagger Warrior- and Hive Guard-tier Terminids and can interrupt Cyborg Radicals and Agitators. This gives the Amendment more defensive value than the standard Diligence despite both weapons using light-penetrating ammunition.

The bayonet extends that control farther. It can stagger individual Terminids up through approximately Alpha Commander size.

That does not make the Amendment a dedicated melee weapon. The control applies to one enemy at a time and requires entering melee range. It also cannot reliably stagger enemies such as Devastators and Berserkers, whose thresholds are higher.

The bayonet is best treated as an emergency tool or part of a brief gunblade-style combination:

  1. Strike the enemy with the bayonet.
  2. Use the stagger and push to create a firing window.
  3. Fire a burst into the exposed body or weak point.
  4. Reposition before additional enemies surround you.

Automatons

The Amendment can kill basic Troopers efficiently and is well suited to targeting the heads of Devastators and Berserkers.

Its semi-automatic mode supports deliberate precision, while burst mode provides a useful emergency response if a Berserker reaches short range.

Light penetration makes repeated fire through armored torsos inefficient. If the head is unavailable, look for exposed stomachs, limbs, weapons, or rear components instead of attempting to brute-force the thickest section.

Terminids

The Amendment performs better against medium Terminids than the regular Diligence in situations where stagger becomes important.

Its 20 projectile stagger can interrupt Warriors and Hive Guards, including during reinforcement calls. The bayonet can stagger even larger individual Terminids.

The rifle’s 200 damage and 20-round magazine also provide reasonable burst damage when a medium enemy closes the distance.

The limitation is swarm management. Burst fire can eliminate a specific threat quickly, but the Amendment remains a precision rifle with only 20 rounds. Large groups of small Terminids can overwhelm it if the rest of the loadout does not provide chaff control.

Cyborgs

Cyborg Radicals and Agitators are a particularly favorable matchup.

Every projectile carries enough stagger to interrupt them. This allows the user to switch between targets, prevent attacks, and repeatedly disrupt their movement while dealing substantial direct damage.

The bayonet adds another emergency control option, although remaining at firing distance is normally safer.

Illuminate

The Amendment can handle isolated Voteless and accessible Overseer weak points. Its burst mode gives it a useful fallback when an Overseer begins moving or enters short range.

However, its light penetration provides no special answer to heavily protected sections, Fleshmobs, or exosuits. Large Voteless groups also expose the rifle’s limited ability to sustain fire.

Final Assessment

The R-2 Amendment is a flexible, aggressive, weak-point-focused Elite Killer.

It sacrifices some of the Diligence’s smooth handling and capacity in exchange for higher damage, faster firing, burst capability, a 10X optic option, and a bayonet.

The rifle works best at medium range, but it can be configured for close or sniper-style use. Its flexibility is real, although every configuration still requires the user to respect its light armor penetration.

R-2124 Constitution

A side view of a military-style rifle with a black body, wooden buttstock, and a fixed bayonet attached to the front.

Weapon Profile

The R-2124 Constitution is a ceremonial, medium-penetrating bolt-action rifle.

It deals 180 ballistic damage, holds five rounds, fires at a maximum of only 60 rounds per minute, and reloads one cartridge at a time. It has a total combat load of approximately 104 rounds when fully loaded.

The rifle is mechanically precise, but it is restricted to iron sights and offers practically no performance customization.

Its fixed bayonet deals approximately 165 medium-penetrating melee damage, carries 25 stagger and substantial push, consumes no ammunition, requires no stamina, and is silent.

The projectile itself possesses 20 stagger force.

Primary Combat Role

Primary Role: Elite Killer

Secondary Role: Limited single-target Crowd Control

Best Range: Close to Short, generally inside 25 meters

Targeting Profile: Rifle-and-bayonet hybrid

The Constitution should not be treated as a modern sniper rifle. Its iron sights, five-round capacity, slow firing cycle, and manually operated action make conventional long-range sniping unnecessarily difficult.

This is a challenge weapon built around deliberate rifle-and-bayonet combat.

The most effective rhythm is to fire carefully as the enemy approaches and then transition into melee once the target enters bayonet range.

An important detail is the order in which the attacks are performed. The projectile’s stagger and push can knock some enemies outside immediate melee range. When attempting a gunblade combination, striking with the bayonet first can keep the target close enough for the follow-up shot.

A practical sequence is:

  1. Allow the target to enter melee distance.
  2. Strike with the bayonet to stagger and push it.
  3. Fire into the exposed body or weak point.
  4. Advance or reposition as necessary.
  5. Repeat while topping off individual rounds whenever an opening appears.

Terminids

The Constitution is surprisingly entertaining against isolated medium Terminids.

Its projectile can stagger Warriors and Hive Guards. The bayonet can control individual targets up through Alpha Commander tier.

That makes it possible to duel a Warrior, Hive Guard, or Commander by alternating between the rifle and bayonet.

The problem is scale. Five rounds and a 60-round-per-minute firing cycle cannot control an actual swarm. The Constitution may dominate one enemy while several Hunters and Pouncers attack from different directions.

It is therefore a poor general-purpose Terminid primary despite its enjoyable melee interactions.

Automatons

The Automatons are probably the Constitution’s most comfortable faction.

Medium penetration and precision weak-point damage work well against Automaton infantry. The bayonet can eliminate or finish isolated Troopers and can contribute against damaged enemies during close-range base fighting.

Cyborg Radicals and Agitators can also be staggered by both the projectile and bayonet, making them satisfying targets for the rifle-and-melee style.

Devastators and Berserkers are much more dangerous. The bayonet cannot reliably control them, and the slow bolt-action cycle leaves very little margin for a missed headshot.

Illuminate

Large Voteless groups expose every limitation of the Constitution. Five rounds, slow follow-up shots, and single-target melee control do not provide enough throughput.

Overseer weak points can be targeted, but modern rifles accomplish the same task more quickly and safely. Fleshmobs and exosuit enemies are especially poor matchups.

Final Assessment

The Constitution is a challenge rifle and bayonet-dueling weapon.

It is not an efficient meta choice, and it is not designed to compete with the Counter Sniper at long range. Its value comes from its distinctive, satisfying gunblade-style combat.

Treat it as a melee weapon in the primary slot that happens to have a precise medium-penetrating rifle attached to it.

R-6 Deadeye

A side view of a modern, sleek firearm with a silver and black design, featuring a scope and ammunition attached to the body.

Weapon Profile

The R-6 Deadeye is a high-damage lever-action marksman rifle.

It deals 300 ballistic damage with medium armor penetration, carries eight rounds, fires at a maximum of approximately 100 rounds per minute, and reloads one cartridge at a time.

It has heavy recoil but relatively good base handling. Its optics can be changed from close-range sights through a 10X sniper scope.

Most importantly, the Deadeye possesses 30 stagger force.

Primary Combat Role

Primary Role: Elite Killer

Secondary Role: Single-target Crowd Control against elite enemies

Tertiary Role: Chaff Killer, although usually inefficient

Best Range: Medium to Long, with Short- and Very-Long-Range flexibility

Targeting Profile: Weak-point focused with a powerful body-shot fallback

The Deadeye is one of the most flexible marksman rifles in terms of distance.

Its 300 damage makes weak-point hits extremely destructive. Medium penetration gives it useful body-shot options, and 30 stagger allows it to interrupt several enemies that largely ignore lower-stagger rifles.

The cost is sustained output. The rifle carries only eight rounds and cycles slowly. Every miss matters.

Deadeye Versus Slugger

The Deadeye is sometimes described as a better Slugger. That comparison ignores the different engagement profiles of the two weapons.

Both can deliver approximately 30 stagger, but the Slugger carries roughly twice the ammunition before reloading and begins its rounds-reload animation more responsively.

The Slugger is the better close-range brawler. It can sustain repeated stagger and damage while enemies apply pressure inside 25 meters.

The Deadeye pays for its lower capacity and slower reload with:

  • Greater precision
  • Magnified optics
  • Better long-range performance
  • Stronger sniper capability
  • More reliable weak-point engagement at distance

The Deadeye can defend itself at close range, but that should be treated as a fallback rather than its intended identity.

Using Stagger Correctly

Against a single Devastator or Berserker, a body shot can stagger the enemy long enough to line up the next shot on the head.

The same mechanic can be used to protect teammates. If an enemy is about to strike another player and its head is not visible, shooting the torso may still completely interrupt the attack.

That is a meaningful advantage over the Counter Sniper. The Counter Sniper provides better long-range stability and a faster magazine-fed firing cycle, but its 20 stagger will not completely interrupt the same Automaton elites.

The Deadeye’s stagger can also:

  • Create space for a reload
  • Stop an advancing medium Terminid
  • Interrupt selected reinforcement calls
  • Buy time to switch weapons
  • Prevent an elite from finishing a teammate

Automatons

The Deadeye is an excellent Automaton weapon.

It can eliminate Troopers before they call reinforcements, kill Devastators and Berserkers through headshots, and provide long-range overwatch while teammates enter a base.

When the weak point is unavailable, its damage and medium penetration allow more practical body-shot fallbacks than the lighter marksman rifles.

The 30 stagger is especially valuable against Devastators and Berserkers. Even an imperfect hit can interrupt them and create the opportunity for a more precise follow-up.

Its main weakness appears when several Berserkers attack simultaneously. Eight rounds, heavy recoil, and a slow firing cycle punish misses severely.

Terminids

The Deadeye performs well against Warriors, Hive Guards, Stalkers, Bile Spewers, Commanders, and other substantial Terminid targets.

Its damage and stagger make it effective for removing priority enemies before they reach the team. If they do reach short range, a successful hit can still interrupt them and provide time to move.

The rifle should not be used as the primary answer to an entire swarm. Spending 300-damage rounds on the smallest Terminids wastes much of each projectile, while the low capacity makes it difficult to recover from inefficient targeting.

Illuminate

Against Overseers, the Deadeye can target the head for a very fast kill. If the user cannot consistently land those headshots, 300 damage and medium penetration still make body shots reasonably effective against ablative armor.

The Deadeye can penetrate Stingrays and can contribute against selected Harvester components, including the hip joints.

Against a melee-focused Veracitor, the rifle can destroy the head to disable the shield protecting the pilot and then precisely shoot the exposed pilot.

The ranged Gatekeeper is more complicated because the shield generator is protected by heavy armor. The Deadeye cannot permanently disable that component by itself. Heavy penetration is required to open the target efficiently before the rifle can attack the pilot.

Watcher drones can normally be destroyed in one or two shots depending on where the projectile connects.

Fleshmobs remain a poor use of the weapon. The Deadeye can precisely target individual heads, but the enemy’s enormous overall health and the rifle’s limited ammunition prevent it from eliminating the entire mass efficiently.

Final Assessment

The R-6 Deadeye is a flexible, high-damage Elite Killer with unusually strong single-target control.

It is not a superior Slugger. It is a longer-ranged lever-action rifle that can stagger like a close-range weapon when necessary.

Keep it topped off, respect the eight-round capacity, and use its stagger to create better shots rather than attempting to brute-force every target through center mass.

R-4 Hyena

A detailed side view of a modern tactical rifle equipped with a scope, featuring a black and brown color scheme.

Weapon Profile

The R-4 Hyena deals 220 ballistic damage with medium armor penetration and incendiary ammunition.

Once an enemy ignites, the fire deals approximately 100 damage per second for three seconds, producing up to 300 additional damage over the full burn duration.

The rifle holds 15 rounds in its default extended magazine, has substantial recoil, fires at approximately 190 rounds per minute, and handles very slowly. Its default configuration includes a 10X sniper scope, muzzle brake, and extended magazine, producing an ergonomics value of 21.

The short magazine reduces capacity from 15 to 10 rounds but improves ergonomics by 11 points and increases total ammunition from 90 to 100 rounds.

For most players, that is a worthwhile trade. The Hyena’s deliberate firing rhythm arguably benefits more from improved handling and additional total ammunition than it does from five extra shots before reloading.

Primary Combat Role

Primary Role: Elite Killer

Secondary Role: Chaff Killer against isolated targets

Additional Role: Limited Crowd Control against selected Terminids and Cyborgs

Best Range: Medium to Long, with a strong overwatch and flanking emphasis

Targeting Profile: Body-shot efficient

Kill Mechanism: Direct ballistic damage plus burn

The most common mistake made when evaluating the Hyena is treating it as a slower Diligence Counter Sniper.

If the only question is how quickly a rifle can shoot an exposed head, the Counter Sniper will often be the more straightforward choice. That is not the Hyena’s defining advantage.

The Hyena is designed to attack the main health pool through a combination of direct ballistic damage and fire. It performs best when the weak point is unavailable, the enemy is facing another player, or a large flank or rear body section is easier to hit than the head.

The name is appropriate. Like the animal, the rifle performs well when attacking distracted prey from the side or rear and allowing accumulated damage to finish the target.

Understanding the Burn

The burn should not be treated as a decorative bonus.

A Hyena user should deliberately include the fire damage in the kill calculation. That means firing, switching targets, allowing the burn to work, and returning only when another shot is necessary.

The weapon becomes inefficient when the user repeatedly fires into a target that is already guaranteed to die.

It also becomes inefficient when the user waits so long between required shots that the active damage-over-time effect has completely expired and then expects the sequence to behave like one continuous damage application.

The goal is not to shoot once and wait indefinitely. The goal is to maintain an intelligent rhythm:

  1. Ignite and stagger the first target.
  2. Switch to another target.
  3. Ignite or damage that target.
  4. Return to the first only if the burn will not finish it.
  5. Repeat while prioritizing the targets applying the most pressure.

Terminid Breakpoints

The Terminids are the Hyena’s strongest faction because many of their medium enemies possess large torso or protected body sections that feed into the main health pool.

Hunter

A Hunter can be killed by one successful shot from any direction once the resulting burn is included.

Using the Hyena exclusively for Hunters would still be an inefficient allocation of its limited ammunition, but the breakpoint is valuable when an isolated Hunter must be removed immediately.

Warrior

A standard Warrior can die from one torso shot followed by the full burn.

This is one of the clearest demonstrations of the Hyena’s identity. A traditional precision rifle encourages the user to find the head. The Hyena can place one medium-penetrating shot into the large torso, switch targets, and allow the fire to complete the kill. The Hyena also heavily staggers Warriors which allows disrupting reinforcement calls or rescuing a teammate.

Hive Guard

A Hive Guard can be killed with two properly spaced hits through its protected head or main body sections, provided the burn is allowed to contribute.

The Hyena’s 20 stagger also interrupts the Hive Guard with every successful shot. The user can therefore shoot one Hive Guard, switch to another, stagger and ignite it, and continue juggling the group while the damage-over-time effects work.

Firing all required shots into one Hive Guard as quickly as possible wastes part of this advantage. Spacing the attacks and switching targets extracts more value from both the stagger and the burn.

Alpha Commander

An Alpha Commander can be killed with approximately five properly placed body shots when the burn damage is fully incorporated.

That is still a substantial ammunition investment, but it gives the Hyena a dependable non-headshot method against a dangerous enemy whose weak point may be moving or concealed.

Reinforcement Interruption

The Hyena possesses 20 stagger force.

That allows it to stagger Warriors and Hive Guards and can interrupt those enemies if they begin calling a Bug Breach.

This matters because Terminid reinforcement behavior is much broader than Automaton reinforcement behavior. Many small and medium Terminids can call a breach.

A weapon does not necessarily need to kill the caller if it can apply enough stagger to interrupt the animation. The Hyena can therefore prevent selected reinforcement calls even when the first shot is not lethal.

Automaton Body-Shot Comparisons

The Counter Sniper remains better when an Automaton elite presents a clean headshot. Its faster firing cycle and conventional direct-damage profile make that engagement simpler.

The Hyena becomes more interesting when attacking the body from the flank.

A standard Devastator can require approximately five Counter Sniper shots when the user fires directly through the torso armor. The Hyena can achieve a comparable delayed kill with approximately four torso hits plus burn.

More efficient mixed-body targeting improves the Hyena further. A combination such as:

  • One shot into the exposed stomach
  • One shot into the pelvis
  • One shot into the torso

can produce a three-shot delayed kill once the burn completes.

In favorable flanking body-shot matchups, the Hyena can therefore secure a kill with three rounds where the Counter Sniper requires four direct hits. That represents a 25-percent reduction in ammunition spent per kill.

Across the tested body-shot matchups, the Hyena produced an overall efficiency advantage of roughly 27 percent compared with the Counter Sniper.

The practical ammunition difference can become substantial. In a hypothetical matchup requiring three Hyena rounds versus four Counter Sniper rounds:

  • A 100-round short-magazine Hyena load could support roughly 33 such kills.
  • A 105-round Counter Sniper load could support roughly 26.

Real missions will never produce perfectly uniform targets or accuracy, but the example demonstrates why the Hyena cannot be evaluated solely through exposed-head tests.

Cyborgs

Cyborg Radicals and Agitators are another favorable matchup.

Their stagger threshold allows every Hyena projectile to interrupt them. The rifle can therefore stagger one Cyborg, switch to another, apply burn, and continue rotating through the group.

The combination of direct damage, repeated interruption, and fire attacking the main health pool makes the Hyena unusually effective against these enemies.

Gas Synergy

Gas is one of the strongest pairings for the Hyena.

Confused enemies often turn away from the player, expose their flanks, attack the wrong target, or move unpredictably instead of charging directly.

That gives the Hyena access to the broad body sections it prefers.

Gas and fire also operate as separate damage-over-time effects. When both are attacking an enemy’s main health pool, the combined damage can rapidly finish targets without requiring the Hyena user to continue firing.

This interaction supports the weapon’s ideal playstyle:

  • Let gas or a teammate draw attention.
  • Move into a flanking angle.
  • Apply ballistic and incendiary damage.
  • Switch targets while the damage-over-time effects continue working.

Close-Range Configuration

The Hyena can be configured for more responsive short-range use.

A practical handling-focused configuration may include:

  • Short magazine
  • Low-magnification optic
  • No heavy muzzle attachment
  • Laser sight
  • Peak Physique
  • Jump Pack, Warp Pack, or another mobility tool

This can make target juggling at short or medium range surprisingly effective.

It does not turn the Hyena into a natural close-range weapon. Its rate of fire, recoil, capacity, and reliance on delayed damage still leave it vulnerable to large groups of Hunters, Pouncers, Voteless, or other fast chaff.

The configuration works when the player understands the risk and has enough mobility to reposition. It should not be mistaken for a universal upgrade over a weapon specifically designed for close-range fighting.

Illuminate

The Illuminate are the Hyena’s weakest faction.

Large Voteless groups overwhelm its firing rate. Moving Overseers make it harder to place the deliberate combinations of body hits required to achieve good ammunition efficiency. Higher stagger thresholds also reduce its ability to control larger Illuminate enemies.

The rifle can still kill isolated targets, destroy Watchers, and punish exposed flanks, but the faction does not consistently provide the broad, predictable body-shot opportunities available against Terminids.

Final Assessment

The R-4 Hyena is a body-shot-efficient, incendiary-assisted Elite Killer.

It rewards:

  • Flanking
  • Team coordination
  • Gas synergy
  • Intelligent target switching
  • Stagger awareness
  • Knowledge of body-section health
  • Patience with delayed kills
  • Thoughtful weapon customization

It is not simple, and it is not as immediately intuitive as the Counter Sniper. That higher execution requirement is not evidence that the weapon is ineffective.

When the burn, stagger, and body-shot breakpoints are used correctly, the Hyena can be exceptionally strong, and this enables a fun, unique gameplay style.

R-72 Censor

A detailed side view of a futuristic firearm, featuring a sleek design with a long barrel, tactical scope, and textured grip.

Weapon Profile

The R-72 Censor is a suppressed marksman rifle built primarily around stealth.

It deals 165 damage with light armor penetration, carries 20 rounds in its normal magazine, fires at approximately 400 rounds per minute, and has extremely low recoil.

Its total ammunition supply is approximately 180 rounds. An extended magazine can increase its loaded capacity to 30 rounds.

The Censor can equip optics ranging from close-range sights through a 10X sniper scope, along with several underbarrel options.

It also possesses 20 stagger force.

Primary Combat Role

Primary Role: Utility through stealth and infiltration

Secondary Roles: Elite Killer and Chaff Killer

Additional Role: Limited control against selected Terminids and Cyborgs

Best Range: Short to Medium, peaking inside approximately 50 meters

Targeting Profile: Stealth and weak-point precision

The Censor is a stealth weapon first and a marksman rifle second.

Its direct combat profile resembles a quieter, somewhat more range-limited Diligence. Its reason for existing is not superior brute-force damage. Its purpose is to prevent the larger fight from beginning.

Bullet Drop

The Censor’s subsonic ammunition has noticeably more bullet drop than the regular Diligence.

Inside approximately 50 meters, the central reticle can normally be placed directly on the desired impact point.

Beyond 50 meters, the drop becomes increasingly visible. At approximately 70 meters and farther, the user must begin making deliberate elevation adjustments.

The 10X sniper scope can help because its reticle provides reference marks for learning the necessary holdover. That makes very-long-range suppressed shots possible, but it does not eliminate the weapon’s ballistic limitation.

How Suppression Actually Works

A suppressor does not make the weapon completely silent.

Testing indicates that Censor shots can be heard within approximately 13 meters. At around 10 meters from otherwise unalerted enemies, it may be possible to fire several shots without causing a full alert, but continued firing eventually reveals the player.

Line of sight and enemy grouping also matter.

Stationary guards can often be dismantled individually. If an isolated guard is killed without another enemy directly observing the attack, the rest of the units may remain unaware.

Patrols behave differently. Damaging one member of a linked patrol can alert the entire patrol even if the weapon itself is suppressed.

A suppressor does not override patrol linking.

Bodies can also create secondary detection problems. A Watcher may be killed quietly, but its body can crash into the ground and explode, attracting attention despite the suppressed projectile.

Automatons

The Automatons provide the Censor’s strongest stealth opportunities.

Troopers are predictable reinforcement callers and can be killed with a single chest shot. Stationary outpost guards can often be removed one at a time before the player enters the base.

This is particularly valuable during infiltration-oriented missions or situations in which access to Super Destroyer support is limited.

The ideal sequence is to identify:

  1. Reinforcement-capable Troopers
  2. Isolated guards
  3. Targets positioned outside another enemy’s direct line of sight
  4. Enemies whose bodies will not crash or explode

After those targets are removed, the player can enter the objective with substantially less resistance.

Against Devastators and Berserkers, the Censor remains dependent on weak points. Its 20 stagger does not provide the same control as the Deadeye.

Terminids

The Censor can quietly eliminate Scavengers, Pouncers, Hunters, and other isolated small Terminids.

Its 20 stagger creates an additional benefit against Warriors and Hive Guards. Each hit can interrupt them, including during selected Bug Breach animations.

This is an important difference between the Censor and the standard Diligence. The Diligence must kill a medium caller quickly enough. The Censor may be able to interrupt it even when the first hit is not lethal.

Larger Commander-tier enemies have higher stagger thresholds and must be killed quickly instead.

Stealth is also more difficult to exploit against Terminids because so many different units can call reinforcements. Quietly killing one or two members of a group does not necessarily neutralize its reinforcement capability.

Cyborgs

Cyborg Radicals and Agitators can be interrupted by every Censor hit.

This allows the weapon to combine quiet elimination with reliable stagger against isolated Cyborg guards. It can remove one target without immediately attracting the entire stationary position, provided the attack is not observed.

Illuminate

The Illuminate are the Censor’s weakest matchup.

Large Voteless groups overwhelm its individual targeting pattern. Grounded Overseers protect their heads with medium armor that the Censor’s light penetration cannot defeat. Elevated Overseers can expose better angles and light armor heads, but those opportunities are situational.

Fleshmobs cannot be quickly eliminated or controlled by the rifle, and Appropriator exosuits provide few favorable targets.

Watchers remain valuable targets because preventing an Illuminate reinforcement call is extremely useful. The user must nevertheless account for the noise created when the destroyed drone crashes.

Final Assessment

The R-72 Censor is the category’s infiltration specialist.

Its value comes from:

  • Quietly eliminating reinforcement callers
  • Dismantling stationary defensive positions
  • Maintaining stealth during selected engagements
  • Interrupting Warrior- and Hive Guard-tier Bug Breach calls
  • Staggering isolated Cyborg elites
  • Preventing a larger battle from beginning

Once the entire area is fully alerted and applying concentrated pressure, the Censor becomes a relatively ordinary light-penetrating rifle with noticeable bullet drop.

Its purpose is to prevent that situation, not dominate it after it has already occurred.

Marksman-Style Weapons Outside the Official Category

The armory’s category labels describe weapon families, but they do not completely define combat roles.

Several weapons outside the official Marksman Rifle category can perform a marksman or sniper-style job. Some are arguably more specialized as snipers than several of the weapons officially carrying the label.

AR-2 Coyote

A black and brown assault rifle viewed from the side, featuring a curved magazine and tactical attachments.

The AR-2 Coyote is one of the strongest long-range Chaff Killers available.

Its optic selection includes a 10X sniper scope, and its incendiary ammunition applies the same basic fire effect of approximately 100 damage per second for three seconds.

Against targets such as Hunters, the combination of direct damage and burn can secure a kill from a single hit regardless of whether the projectile lands on the head, torso, or limb.

That makes the Coyote extremely effective for eliminating small targets at long range. Rather than carefully finding a weak point, the user can hit almost any visible body section, switch targets, and allow the burn to finish the enemy.

The same concept works against:

  • Hunters
  • Small Terminid chaff
  • Automaton Troopers
  • Voteless
  • Other lightly protected reinforcement callers

The Coyote carries enough ammunition to sustain this role, provided the user fires deliberately and allows the burn to work instead of spraying repeatedly into targets that are already dying.

Its main limitation is stagger. It cannot meaningfully stagger Warrior-sized Terminids, Devastators, Cyborg elites, or Overseers.

Primary Marksman-Style Role: Long-range Chaff Killer

BR-14 Adjudicator

A detailed side view of a futuristic rifle featuring a sleek design, integrated optical sight, and distinctive color patterns.

The BR-14 Adjudicator occupies the space between an assault rifle and a marksman rifle.

It combines medium armor penetration with full-automatic fire and access to a 10X sniper scope. At short range, it can fire automatically into center mass. At long range, it can switch to deliberate shots against smaller targets and weak points.

Its strongest marksman-style application is eliminating Automaton Troopers before they call reinforcements. Medium penetration allows the Adjudicator to attack those enemies from a variety of angles, while its damage is less excessive than spending a heavy marksman-rifle projectile on every Trooper.

Devastator headshots generally require at least two rounds, making it less efficient than a dedicated high-damage marksman rifle against those weak points.

The Adjudicator also provides no meaningful stagger against medium enemies. It cannot control Warriors, Devastators, Cyborg elites, or Overseers.

Primary Marksman-Style Role: Flexible reinforcement-caller killer with assault-rifle fallback

R-36 Eruptor

A detailed image of a modern firearm with a sleek design, featuring a scope and tactical elements.

The R-36 Eruptor is an explosive utility sniper.

It deals 455 listed damage, carries five rounds, fires at 32 rounds per minute, and combines heavy armor penetration with explosive and shrapnel effects.

Its default configuration includes a 10X sniper optic.

The Eruptor’s defining advantage is demolition. It can destroy:

  • Bot Fabricators
  • Bug Holes
  • Warp Ships
  • Other vulnerable enemy structures

This gives it exceptional long-range Utility. A player can eliminate enemy spawners from very-long range without spending a grenade or support-weapon shot.

The explosion and shrapnel also allow one projectile to damage small groups of enemies near the impact point. Depending on their positioning, it can kill chaff, damage elites, or do both simultaneously.

Its ammunition supply and slow bolt action require deliberate target selection. The user should not spend every shot on isolated weak enemies when the rifle may be needed for demolition.

The explosion is also dangerous inside approximately 10 meters. Firing near an overwhelmed teammate may kill the enemies and the teammate together.

The Eruptor is therefore poorly suited to close-range rescue shots.

Primary Role: Utility through demolition

Secondary Roles: Elite Killer and grouped Chaff Killer

CB-9 Exploding Crossbow

A futuristic semi-automatic rifle with a black stock and an olive green body, featuring a tactical scope mounted on top.

The CB-9 Exploding Crossbow deals 620 damage, carries five bolts, fires at 50 rounds per minute, possesses medium armor penetration, and can be used one-handed.

Like the Eruptor, it can destroy enemy spawners and clustered enemies.

Its projectile arc and limited optic options make extreme-range shots more demanding, but an experienced user can still destroy Fabricators or Bug Holes from considerable distances.

The weapon is extremely loud. Firing it can draw patrols and other enemies toward the impact area, which may cause hostile units to accumulate around the battlefield over the course of a mission.

That noise can also be used deliberately as misdirection. If an undetected patrol is approaching, firing a bolt away from your position can attract it toward the explosion.

The blast and high stagger can control enemies at distance, but close-range use risks killing the user or nearby teammates.

Primary Role: Utility through demolition

Secondary Roles: Area damage, Elite Killing, and explosive misdirection

PLAS-39 Accelerator Rifle

A futuristic rifle featuring a sleek design with a prominent scope on top and a textured grip, showcasing a blend of gray and black colors.

The PLAS-39 Accelerator is one of the clearest dedicated sniper rifles among weapons not officially placed in the Marksman Rifle category.

It fires an unchangeable three-round burst. Each projectile deals approximately 250 direct damage plus 100 explosive damage, producing approximately 350 damage per projectile and 1,050 raw damage when the complete burst connects.

Its nine-round capacity therefore provides three complete bursts before reloading.

The rifle has:

  • A fixed 10X sniper optic
  • Extremely high projectile velocity
  • Very little practical projectile drop
  • Low recoil
  • Medium armor penetration
  • 20 stagger force

The Accelerator should be treated like a three-shot bolt-action sniper rather than a conventional burst rifle. Each trigger pull commits one-third of the magazine.

Its targeting profile resembles the Hyena in one important respect: headshots are not always necessary.

A complete burst placed into a standard Devastator’s pelvis can secure a kill. A combination of pelvis, stomach, and lower-torso hits may also reach the necessary damage.

It is also effective as Heavy or Tank Killer when exposed sections like heatsink vents on Hulks or Tanks are able to be targeted.

The difference is how the two rifles produce the result:

  • The Hyena spreads its kill across ballistic hits and burn damage.
  • The Accelerator front-loads more than 1,000 damage into one burst.

Its small explosion can also stagger grouped Warriors, Hive Guards, and Cyborgs without creating the same enormous friendly-fire danger as an Eruptor or Crossbow projectile.

The Accelerator performs poorly when treated like a close-range rifle that happens to have a 10X scope. Its handling and ammunition model make much more sense when it is used as a dedicated sniper.

Primary Role: High-burst Elite Killer

Secondary Role: Limited grouped Crowd Control

JAR-5 Dominator

A futuristic firearm, labeled 'JAR-5 DOMINATOR,' featuring a sleek design with a combination of metallic gray and orange accents, a large cylindrical magazine, and various tactical attachments.

The JAR-5 Dominator can function as a medium-range marksman rifle despite its official classification.

It deals approximately 275 damage, carries 15 rounds, fires at approximately 250 rounds per minute, possesses medium armor penetration, and uses jet-assisted projectiles that avoid conventional damage falloff.

It also has approximately 35 stagger force, matching the maximum available on a primary weapon.

That stagger allows the Dominator to interrupt:

  • Devastators
  • Berserkers
  • Cyborg elites
  • Warriors
  • Hive Guards
  • Alpha Commanders
  • Other infantry-style elite targets

Its default 4X combat scope supports engagements out to approximately 75 meters. It can reach farther, but its limited magnification, substantial recoil, heavy handling, and mechanical spread make very-long-range weak-point shots less reliable than those of a dedicated sniper.

The Dominator does not always need to target the head. Its damage, medium penetration, and stagger allow it to fire into stomachs, pelvises, torsos, and other center-mass sections while repeatedly interrupting the target.

This makes it an excellent overwatch weapon. Even an imperfect shot may save a teammate by completely stopping the attacking enemy.

At close range, rapid fire produces enormous damage and stagger, but the weapon still carries only 15 rounds and handles heavily. Those limitations must be respected.

As with the dedicated marksman rifles, target selection determines ammunition economy. Firing a 275-damage projectile into a 60-health Scavenger is not an efficient use of the weapon simply because the enemy dies.

Primary Marksman-Style Role: Elite Killer

Secondary Role: Powerful single-target Crowd Control

Conclusion

Marksman rifles reward more than mechanical accuracy.

They reward understanding.

A good marksman-rifle user knows:

  • Which enemies deserve the ammunition
  • Which body sections feed into the relevant health pool
  • When a weak-point shot is realistic
  • When a body-shot fallback is more efficient
  • Which stagger thresholds can interrupt attacks or reinforcement calls
  • How much distance the weapon needs
  • When a delayed burn has already guaranteed the kill
  • When firing another shot would simply waste ammunition
  • What the rest of the loadout must provide

The Diligence rewards fast weak-point transitions. The Counter Sniper rewards long-range precision. The Amendment rewards controlled aggression. The Constitution rewards deliberate rifle-and-bayonet combat. The Deadeye rewards high-impact accuracy and stagger management. The Hyena rewards flanking, target switching, and knowledge of damage-over-time breakpoints. The Censor rewards patience and stealth planning.

None of those weapons should be judged as though it were merely a different version of the Counter Sniper.

Learn the rifle’s job, build around its limitations, and choose targets that allow it to perform that job. The better you understand your weapon, the more effective—and generally the more fun—it becomes.
